WHO WE ARE?

The National Institute of Ambient and Development (INADES), is a private organization, nonlucrative, of technical, scientific, cultural and social character, counts between his members with professionals, technicians and paratechnicians of long experience in the matter, specially in handling of Wild Areas and Environmental Education. The INADES was organized the 25 of May of 1991, in the city of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, by a group of 18 people who constitute the general assembly; it obtained legal recognition by means of resolution no. 057-92 of the Ministry of Interior and Justice.

It has acted like adviser, under contract, in the areas of organic agriculture and environmental education with the Organization of Feminine Enterprise Development (ODEF), a Private organization of Development (OPD), with seat in San Pedro Sula, 250 km to the north of Tegucigalpa, that takes care of poor women in the area of the micro company. The INADES took care, during a year, to enable to the personnel of this organization and supporting to them in their work of field, for the introduction of the environmental variable in their regular programs.

Later, from 1992 to 1996, the INADES was part of the INTEGRAL PROJECT OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT (PROINTEGRAL), a partnership of seven Private organizations of Development, that during that time was operating in 23 indigenous communities Lencas of the department of La Paz, to 135 km to NW of Tegucigalpa. This zone is included in three Biological Reserves Guajiquiro, Las Trancas y El Cedro whose administration and handling have been delegated by the State to the INADES, by means of Agreement signed in 1995.

In this zone, the INADES has been strongly working in the organization and qualification of about 40 Forest Committees at the level of villages and small villages and participating actively in all the actions of local significance and regional, in please the protection of seven existing Biological Reserves in the zone.

From January of 1997, the INADES extended their action to other two Biological Reserves: Montecillos Mountain range, located between the departments of La Paz and Comayagua, to 150 km to NW of Tegucigalpa; This mountain range, along with those of Guajiquiro, Las Trancas y El Cedro, the Drawer, the most important hydroelectric project of the country comprises of the hydrographic river basin, that it generates more of 75% of the national electrical energy. The other Reserve that is taken care of is the Mountain of El Chile, to 150 km to the East of Tegucigalpa. This it is a mountainous, rich in biodiversity and specially important bulk like producing zone of water. More than 100 communities of they supply of originating water of this mountain and the National Service of Waters and Wasted water (SANAA) maintains it in portfolio as potential source for the water provision for the capital of the Republic, and in year 2000 INADES sign an agreement with the State in which it delegates to the institute the administration and handling to it of this reserve.
The INADES, always has looked for the way to integrate to youth in their processes and is due to which from year 2000 an Agreement of cooperation with the Catholic University of Honduras is had, in which attendance will offer them and the young people will be able to make works of field directed to the local improvement, in the Reserve of El Chile, in addition to other means of learning- practices.

The INADES orients its to drive, impelled by three fundamental principles: the respect to the dignity of the human person; the belief in primacy of Communal property on or particular and the conviction on the perfectibility of the civil society. These Principles, as well, originate other impelling values that they have to do with the communitarian participation in the solution of his own problems; the recognition of the dimension of sort and, particularly, the necessity of the participation of the women and the young people in the constant search of the communitarian well-being; the commitment and loyalty towards the communities and the discipline and efficiency in the use of the resources.

In the places where INADES is working, make a diversity of activities of rural development in harmony with conservation of the natural resources. Some of these activities are:

  1. Promotion and Technical assistance for the organic agriculture.
  2. Ground conservancy
  3. Poblacional stabilization
  4. Identification and promotion of alternative economic activities instead agriculture
  5. Technical Assistance for the sustainable use of the natural resources.
  6. Promotion and commercialization of craft
  7. Preparation and packaged of foods
  8. Environmental education through courses, contest, young people camps, festivals…
  9. Organization and cap citation of people for the production and protection of natural resources.
  10. Cap citation for the enforcement of the application system of justice and promotion of the people's participation in the state manners and social order.
